Hi Sxxxxx,
As I explained in my previous mail I didn't keep the paper about "Cruising Russian Canals" and it may have been published in Practical Boat Owner (PBO) and not in Sailing Today.
Nevertheless I did a bit of digging in my archives, so to speak, and did find 3 papers about canals you could sail to reach the Baltic via Denmark and Sweeden.
Frankly, from the pictures, it looks gorgious, almost like the Caledonian Canal, even if less rocky and with a very different scenery.
Lifting keels/dagerboards are definitely a great thing.
It seems that for most of the trip you could keep the mast on which would be a significant plus.
All papers come from PBO and are attached as a single PDF file.
I also include below some web links about cruising Russian Canals and if most are about commercial offers they can provide some useful information and get you some insight about it will be
.
I hope this will help if you choose to sail a 445 as we did.
All the best, kind regards.
Marc.
